Running my Business – One Week In

by Mike on February 15, 2010

Its been one week since I started my business, and even in that short space of time I have learnt so much.

Firstly, when you start you realize how valuable time is. You squeeze every minute of the day for what its worth, and make sure you are doing something productive or beneficial whenever you can. If you don’t have effective time management, there is no way you can be in business.

Secondly, you think, eat, dream and talk about your business all the time. Its a strange feeling that takes hold – I would imagine its similar to being a first time parent. I have a newborn business that I am nurturing and growing from the ground up. Almost every waking second is spent thinking about it, and I can’t even help it!

Thirdly, you work more than ever. Seriously – I planned to work 10-11 hours a day once my business was up, but I easily clock that and more. And I don’t feel tired or exhausted, because its such an incredibly novel and exciting journey for me. Its fun. Its what I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m finally doing it. Of course, if I feel myself wearing down in the future, I will clock back a bit and take it easier to prevent burnout. But so far, I have all engines firing.

Fourthly, getting clients and seeing them happy with your progress with their campaigns is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world. Its better than eating a Lindt chocolate, or going down the Cobra rollercoaster at Ratanga.

What the heck am I doing, anyway?

FusewareTo be as concise as possible, I enable my clients to effectively monitor, measure and engage their online customers. My company, Fuseware, does this by creating social media campaigns for clients, enhancing their search engine optimization, and creating andĀ optimizingĀ blogs for them. I believe its the next big wave to take hold of the world, and especially South Africa, and not enough has been done by companies to effectively take advantage of this great new medium of interaction.

So far, so good :) I have plenty more ideas and stories to tell you in the upcoming days and weeks, so please subscribe by email or RSS.
